More time at sea

Here are a few more shots from the past few months at sea. I’ve seen some good weather fronts so I thought I’d try to capture them as best as I could.  Here’s what I got.

Cornwall 2015

We decided to get one last holiday before the baby comes in September so we decided a few nights down in Cornwall would be an ideal break away. Laura booked us into a small holiday cottage for the first night a few miles from Weston-Super-Mare which was an ideal stop off point on the way to her aunties in Porthpean on the southeast coast of Cornwall.

Venice

With the news that Laura & myself are expecting our first child this year, we decided to try to squeeze in one last holiday before the baby comes. We opted to go the the Venetian riviera, Lido Di Jesolo. We wanted somewhere with a beach but also within reach of something to do! Venice was just over an hour away on the bus/water bus and we also decided on an excursion to Verona and Lake Garda with the holiday company, which was 2.5 hours each way!

Here are some of the images.

Cheers for taking the time to check out this post. We will definitely be heading back to Italy in the future, not so sure if it will be back to the Venice area though.

The weekend before Christmas

So the wife and I managed to get everything sorted for Christmas with time to spare so we decided to make the most of a free weekend together and go away. I found a nice hotel near Ironbridge as we had some vouchers to see the attractions there. Something I’d highly recommend.

First stop was Blists Hill.

We then went into Ironbridge to look at the at the Bridge and have a look around the town. There’s a brilliant shop if you like a good selection of Beers and spirits.

Next stop was the hotel for some rest, food and drink before a busy day on the Sunday. Up and out fairly early, we headed to RAF Cosford which I was looking forward to. I was amazed by the architecture of one of the Hangars there, especially with the light I had.

I really wanted to get a good shot of the Vulcan but just couldn’t get the angle I wanted with it being indoors and surrounded by other planes, not to mention the size of it! I would definitely recommend RAF Cosford though and I’ll definitely go back there.

We then headed over to Attingham Park for a bite to eat. Whilst driving up to the house I noticed a few Deer in the grounds. We had a walk over and I was surprised at the numbers there, between 160 & 200 according to one of the notices.

We had booked tickets for the light show at Erddig as it was on the way home and something we had both seen last we and wanted to photograph. This was the first year that they had put the event on and after speaking to a volunteer, it looks like they will be doing this next year as it paid for itself and had a very good response from the public.

And thats it. A filled weekend before christmas thanks to being very organised with most things. Something we will hopefully be able to do again next year.

Rugged Man – Bristol

240 ish miles. 9 Hours there and back. 3 hours in the club. A lot of good music.

I’ve wanted to see R.A the Rugged Man for a long, long time so when I found out he was playing in the UK I made plans to go see him, wherever he was playing. With my work rota, it turned out Bristol was the only date I could make so booked tickets. When booking I noticed Pharoahe Monch was the headliner for the night with Blak Twang also playing.

R.A also had a few guests with him: Locksmith- a rapper from California who I’d seen on Youtube a while back and has very good flow. Eamon- who had worldwide chart success with “Fuck it (I don’t want you back)” a few years ago, and has more recently provided the backing vocals for two tracks on Rugged Man’s album, Legends never die, and A.F.R.O – a 17 year old kid with ridiculous flow, who had recently won a Rugged Man contest.

I only took my 50mm f1.8 and my Canon 550d with me. I forgot my flash and my on camera flash decided not to work so there are a lot of noisy images here. The lighting wasn’t great – especially after Blak Twang and being at the front of the crowd with a fixed lens meant I was fairly restricted in what I could shoot. Still, a cracking night.

A Quick trip to Snowdonia

I had planned to make the short trip to Cwm Idwal in Snowdonia for a while and with the winds forecast to be still, I thought it was the perfect day to get some reflections in the lake. I planned to set of early but that didn’t happen. After picking a friend up, we set off around 8.30, stopping o the way for a quick coffee to go.

On the way up there, we detoured and stopped off at Aber Falls. A couple of quid to park and a 45 minute walk up the gentle path led us to one of the best waterfalls I have seen, and its practically on my doorstep!

So we had an hour at the falls we then made our way down the A55. After turning off for Bethesda and heading down the Ogwen valley, we were greeted with some lovely low lying clouds.

We arrived at the visitor center and the weather didn’t look too good but we decided to make the short walk to the lake on the off chance it would clear. And it did. Just!
